What is YT?
Yoga Therapy (YT) as taught at Ursula & Pearl is fundamentally about permission and relaxation - two of the most essential ingredients in experieince and emotional digestion. Our method relies on the philosophy of "natural liberation” which is the notion that all phenomena are self-liberating in nature, and when provided the space will "free themselves.” That means those stubborn limiting beliefs, dense emotions, chronic tensions even traumas are all naturally seeking resolution and with the right conditions (a space of permission and ease/relaxation) can actually resolve themselves organically.
Session structure
Sessions are 90-minutes. We open with a gentle guided meditation to get present in our bodies, connect with our breath, and introduce the contemplation question for the session (e.g. What within me could use some love right now? What event from this week needs more holding right now? Where am I feeling stuck?). Following the meditation we have 45-minutes of slow, gentle restorative yoga - 90% of poses are conducted laying on our backs using props and the wall for support. Through gentle breathing and awareness cultivation we meet our edges (somatic, mental, emotional etc.) and give them permission to be exactly as they are; no changing, fixing, improving etc. Following asana we will rest and do nothing as a practice of integration. Finally, after resting we will have time to journal/write and reflect on the experieince, crystallising any insights and wisdom to help them further integrate, then there will be an opportunity at the end of every class for 1-2 people to share if desired.
Inner/Outer
As within so without, the interdependence of all things. In the spirit of our unity, solidarity and interconnectedness we come together out of kindness for ourselves, giving ourselves the gift of resting, digesting and permission to be as we are. While also coming together out of kindness for all beings, knowing that our financial contribution goes directly and exclusively to charity. When we show up in kindness for ourselves and the world around us we create inner harmony and integrity and real world impact both in our own body-minds and the collective global community we are a part of.
